Where it begins

Of this place

The studio sits above the water on Minjerribah, the world’s second-largest sand island. We could not exist anywhere else.

We honour the Quandamooka people, Traditional Custodians of the sand we walk upon, and the deep, enduring connection they have held with this Country for millennia.

We carry the legacy of our mother, who ran the island drapery and hand-stitched our childhood outfits — she taught us that a garment is a vessel for care.

Australian designed

Imagined here, with intention — and honest about where a piece is dreamed versus born.

We are an Australian studio, and that means something to us. Design is a craft in its own right — the silhouette, the print, the smallest considered detail. Pieces are imagined before they are ever made, by designers who shape each garment with intention. We celebrate that creative work, and we believe in being honest about the difference between where a piece is dreamed and where it is born.

Artists credited

Every print began as a painting or sketch. We name the artist behind the work.

So much of what we wear began as a work of art. A painting. A sketch drawn by hand. We credit artists and honour the original work that lives on in every print and weave. To wear their art is to carry their story, and every artist deserves to be remembered.

Australian made

Made on our shores is rare — and a cause for celebration when it’s done.

Being made on the shores of our home is a rarity, yet a cause for celebration when it is done. As a result of consumerism culture and underpaid labour, making garments elsewhere is common. We acknowledge what a rare and grateful act Australian made truly is.

Artisanal

Traditional techniques over mass production. Craft as a living art form.

We believe in the soul of the handmade. Our intention is to celebrate the makers who refuse to rush. We prioritise artisanal depth and traditional techniques over mass production. From the intricate weave to the deliberate cut, we seek out pieces that tell a story. This is about the preservation of craft as a living, breathing art form.

Women in leadership

We champion the growing visibility of women leading the way.

We advocate for women in leadership. Historically, women have experienced a lack of opportunity, and it is something we are glad to see changing. The growing visibility of women in leadership is a value we hold close.

Fair trade

Artisans — often women in Asia and Africa — paid fairly and treated with dignity.

Every hand matters. Working conditions across every step of the process matter to us. We prioritise heart-led creators and cooperatives who ensure that artisans, often women in Asia and Africa, are paid fairly and treated with the dignity they deserve. Our intention is that when you wear a piece from our studio, you become part of a circle of respect that reaches far beyond our shores.

Naturally derived

Natural fibres and plant-based ingredients, kind to the land they came from.

What a piece is made from — and made with — matters to us. For cloth, we seek natural fibres grown through farming that honours the wellbeing of the land. For our potions, balms, scents and botanicals, we choose plant-derived, naturally sourced ingredients over synthetic shortcuts. Whether woven or blended, we believe in what comes honestly from the earth, and is kind to the land it came from.
